Photograph of Thomas Claude Wade Midwood, Hobart, Tasmania, 1854-1912, from 'The Weekly Courier', Thursday, 19th September, 1912 p.23 (Archives Office of Tasmania) - one week after his death on 12th September 1912. Caption: "The late Mr. Tom Midwood for long in the Tasmanian Civil Service. Mr. Midwood was a remarkably clever caricaturist. The portrait shows Mr. Midwood with his favourite musical instrument the banjo"... According to Clifford Craig in 'More old Tasmanian Prints' Midwood 'was a master of the banjo, guitar, and mandolin, besides being a fair pianist. In his younger days, he in fact toured the United States, with a musical company, playing the banjo. The late Sir William Crowther remembered him teaching this instrument in the late nineties.'
