Carington Smith Collection
The Carington Smith Collection comprises 500 works by the distinguished artist and previous Head of the Art Department, Hobart Technical College from 1940–70, Jack Carington Smith (1908–72). The collection consists of sketches, studies, and paintings.
Carington Smith found his inspiration in landscapes of the River Derwent and Bruny Island, and nocturnal views from his Sandy Bay studio. He is best known for his portraiture, and his works are represented in all major Australian galleries.
