Assoc Prof Burdon completed her PhD at the University of Tasmania and returned in 2014 to join the genetics theme at the Menzies Institute for Medical Research and establish an ocular genetics program. <br />

Kathryn has been working in the field of genetics for 15 years, beginning with the identification of the gene for Nance-Horan Syndrome during her PhD. Knowledge of the gene for this disease has since been used to perform pre-implantation diagnosis, pre-natal in utero diagnosis and genetic counselling for carriers and families of patients.
