Thomas MidwoodA remarkably clever caricaturist
Men of the Public Service
For almost 20 years Thomas Midwood worked as a Specification Draughtsman in the Tasmanian Public Works Department. Surviving documents include: his plan of the Mersey to Deloraine railway and, photographs of the "Welcome to Apple Land" processional arch designed for the 1901 visit of the Duke and Duchess of York (later King George V and Queen Mary).
Thomas also found time in his work day to draw the public sector personalities of his day.
Midwood is exceptionally clever, but he’s buried in a Government office, and as a matter of etiquette declines to issue political cartoons from the tomb.
