Library Special & Rare Collections
Temporary changes to collection access
The Special & Rare reading room will be temporarily closed to visitors during November & December while the Cultural Collections team conduct an inventory of the rare book collections. Appointments to view material will reopen the week commencing 15 January 2024. The rare book inventory will also limit access to other collections which may delay our ability to answer email enquiries. We apologise for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience and understanding while this important work is undertaken.

Cultural events, spaces, programs, and opportunities are gradually being added to this new portal
The Library Special & Rare Collections manages and provides access to the cultural and historical records of the University. The collections include: private papers and records from individuals; families; local businesses, community, charitable and cultural organisations; and The Royal Society of Tasmania Collection.
Our Special & Rare Collections consist of: rare books, early manuscripts; journals; maps; university records of a non-business nature; and private materials including diaries, letters, photographs, paintings and other collectable ephemera.
You can view a selection of our digitised collections on SPARC and the University Open Access Repository.
